Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Evelyn was born April 20, 1922 to Albert and Martha (Lambrecht) Totzke in Benton Harbor. She later moved to Stevensville and graduated from Stevensville High School in 1940. On July 22, 1944 she married George Reschke at St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor. The sign on the side of their car stated 'Watch Derby Grow'.

Evelyn was an employee of The 1900 Corporation in her early years, but in 1956 Evelyn, her husband, Father and Father-in-law started Metal Processors Co. in her garage on Roosevelt Rd in Stevensville. She and George retired in the early eighties.

She was very active in Ladies Aid, OWLS, and Women's Bible Study at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Evelyn and her Husband were instrumental in starting New Life Lutheran Church in Sebring, Florida.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, needle point, boating and camping at Camp Lor-Ray in Muskegon. She loved her home in...Read MORE...
