"On 22 April 1679 at L'Ange-Gardien, Robert married Jeanne Le Chevalier... Jeanne was about thirty-four years old, the daughter of Jean and of Marguerite Romain of Saint-Nicolas de Coutances, in the Manche, Normandy... This was the second marriage for Jeanne Le Chavalier. She was the widow of Guillaume Lecanteur, Sieur de la Tour, son of Nicolas and of Jeanne Hamelot of Saint-Sauvier de Beaumont-en-Auge, Normandy. Le Canteur was already living in Quebec as early as 9 July 1670. he signed his marriage contract with Jeanne on 11 October 1671. This couple had three children: Nicolas, Charles, and Guillaume. When the census of 1681 was taken, Nicolas and Charles were mentioned but not Guillaume. Then Charles disappeared too. Years later, on 24 September 1693, Robert Levesque gave his remaining step-son a piece of property of six arpents in frontage on the River Ouelle. Some time between that date and 4 October 1693, a period of about two weeks, Nicolas died. We know this because that was the date on which his mother Jeanne had the gift annulled because her son was dead."

Biography
'Robert Lévesque, son of Pierre Lévesque and Marie Caumont, was baptized September 3, 1642, at Hautot-Saint-Sulpice, Upper Normandy, France. His godfather was Robert Lévesque and his godmother, Anne Gontier. As his parents married in Hautot-Saint-Sulpice on October 27, 1641, one can assume he is the eldest of the family. We know Robert had one brother, François, baptized on April 5, 1644.

Jean-Baptiste-François Deschamps de la Bouteillerie, gentleman from the region of Caux, the same area Robert Lévesque is from, was promised a seigniory by the king of France. At the end of June 1671, Deschamps sailed from Dieppe on the Saint-Jean-Baptiste with two carpenters, two masons and four laborers. Robert Lévesque was probably one of the carpenters. On October 29, 1672, lord Deschamps received the grant of the seigniory of la Bouteillerie. Chances are he was already working on his land as early as 1672, maybe even before the date of the grant.

Robert worked first as a carpenter during...Read MORE...
