WOODSTOCK - Hector J. Gaudette, 67, of Woodstock, a former American Optical manager, died yesterday in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Jean M. (Dupre) Gaudette. He was born in Southbridge, son of Hector J. and Mary (Brown) Gaudette, and lived here several years. He had lived all his life in the area.

Mr. Gaudette was a manager at American Optical Co. in Southbridge for 44 years. He later worked four years at Cabot Safety Corp. before he retired. He was an Army veteran.

The funeral will be Wednesday from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at noon in St. Stephen's Church, Routes 131 and 297, Quinebaug. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer
