According to the 'History of Oakland County' by Thaddeus DeWitt Seeley, Nathaniel Baldwin's daughter was one of the early school teachers in Oakland County:

'His daughter, Susan, taught school in the Postal district in a small log house built for the purpose in 1821, one of the earliest schools in the county.'
