Frank J. Perhats, president of Arden-Mark Inc. in Barrington, Ill., has developed a system which he says makes this possible. Perhats, who also heads a sales engineers firm, has been inventing auto-related items for years but this is the first system that he really hopes to score with.
'We're confining sales of the system, called Autotherm, to fleets and new-car dealerships,' Perhats said. 'We've sold it to a number of police departments, and it's even on cabs in Sweden, where it's illegal to idle a car for more than two minutes.

Frank graduated from DePaul Academy and was inducted into the Army in June of 1944. After serving in WWII in the South Pacific and Occupied Japan, he returned home and attended DePaul University majoring in Philosophy. It was there he met the love of his life Arden Adams and they were married June 16, 1951.
He started Perhats Associates (his first company) in 1959, and held a variety of patents including, most recently, for Autotherm. Throughout his life, Frank’s interests spanned a broad spectrum: technology, WWII history, science, the history, culture and architecture of his beloved city Chicago, and the automotive industry. He painted, gardened, built model railroads and was an avid reader on all these topics as well as a faithful attendee at the Chicago Automobile Show for over 50 years.
