Jean-Baptiste  married  Marie-Charlotte BARBARY dite GRANDMAISON 3 May 1734 in Pointe-Claire, Montréal, Canada, New France .  Marie-Charlotte BARBARY dite GRANDMAISON  was born abt. 1713 in Québec Province, Canada (Quebec).  Marie-Charlotte died 10 January 1745 in Sainte-Geneviève, Québec, Canada (Pierrefonds)*.  Marie-Charlotte was the child of Pierre BARBARY dit GRANDMAISON and Marie-Françoise PARÉ.

Jean-Baptiste  married  (2) Jeanne BENOIT 24 February 1756 in Sainte-Geneviève, Canada, New France .  Jeanne BENOIT  was born 29 May 1724 in Rivière-des-Prairies, Montréal, Québec, Canada (Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rivière-des-Prairies)*.  Jeanne died 4 July 1769 in Saint-Eustache, Québec, Canada.  Jeanne was the child of Nicolas BENOIT and Catherine THIBAULT dite LEVEILLE.

Jean-Baptiste  married  (3) Francoise LANIEL dite DESROSIERS 15 January 1770 in Saint-Eustache, Province of Québec, Canada .  Francoise LANIEL dite DESROSIERS  was born 19 February 1729 in Montréal, Québec, Canada (Sault-au-Récollet) (Côte-St-Michel) (Côte-St-Paul).  Francoise was the child of Antoine LANIEL DESROSIERS and Marie-Anne FOUCRAULT (FOUQUEREAU) dite URBAIN.

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
