The cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper of Motorola. On April 3, 1973, he made the first handheld mobile phone call with the Motorola DynaTAC. This device weighed 2.5 pounds and was 10 inches long, offering 30 minutes of talk time and requiring 10 hours to charge. Lorraine Rita (Desrosier) Thomas, died on June 27, 2015 at the age of 90. Her husband was the late William Robert 'Bob' Thomas, who died September 1, 2011. They were married September 10, 1946. She was born in Worcester, MA, February 11, 1925, daughter of Ernest and Helen (Lippe) Desrosier.
She received her business degree from Bucknell University before working as an accountant for over a decade. She then became a dedicated homemaker who focused on raising and managing her family. The family lived in Port Ewen, NY starting in 1958 and moved to Blacksburg, VA in 1975.
She held several volunteer positions at St. Mary's Parish in Blacksburg, VA for many years and was most recently a parishoner at St. Ann's Church in Emmaus, PA where she continued her dedication to her faith and the Catholic Church. She was an avid golfer and an accomplished pianist. She was involved in the Leukemia Society of America as an organizer and donor. She was a member of Wiltwyck Country Club in Kingston
