Prefamine yrs Hugh and brother Maurice farmed rented land in Arraglen, Cloghane, Kerry (near Sauce Creek)simultaneously farmed rented land "over the mountain" actually the eastern foothills of Mt Brandon in the townland of Clash. In January 1810 he married the girl from the adjacent townland to Clash called Ballynavenoorah, her name was Johanna Fitzgerald. He never emigrated.
