Augustin  married  Josephte GERVAIS 30 June 1778 in Verchères, Province of Québec, Canada .  Josephte GERVAIS  was born 4 August 1738 in Pointe-aux-Trembles, Montréal, Québec, Canada* (L'Enfant-Jésus-de-la-Pointe-aux-Trembles).  Josephte died 6 October 1792 in Verchères, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Vercheres).  Josephte was the child of Nicolas GERVAIS and Marie-Françoise ARCHAMBAULT.

Augustin  married  (2) Marie-Louise CHALUT 15 July 1793 in Verchères, Lower Canada .  Marie-Louise CHALUT  was born 13 March 1765 in Verchères, Québec, Canada (Saint-François-Xavier-de-Vercheres).  Marie-Louise died 8 August 1848 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada (Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, Saint-Hyacinthe-le-Confesseur).  Marie-Louise was the child of Michel CHALUT and Marie-Anne JARRET dite BEAUREGARD.

Augustin FONTAINE dit BIENVENU died 13 September 1806 in Verchères, Lower Canada .

Did You Know? Québec Généalogie - What is a 'dit/dite' name?  When the first settlers came to Québec from France it was a custom to add a 'dit' nickname to the surname. The English translation of 'dit' is 'said'. The Colonists of Nouvelle France added 'dit' names as distinguishers. A settler might have wanted to differentiate their family from their siblings by taking a 'dit' name that described the locale to which they had relocated. The acquiring of a 'dit' name might also be the result of a casual adoption, whereby the person wanted to honor the family who had raised them. Another reason was also to distinguish themselves by taking as a 'dit' name the town or village in France from which they originated. This custom ended around 1900 when people began using only one name, either the 'dit' nickname or their original surname.
