The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Walter Daniel Carpenter, 84, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019 in Amarillo, TX.

Walter was born in Wilmington, Massachusetts on October 23, 1935 to Frank George Carpenter and Mary Madeline (White) Carpenter. He was the youngest of 10 children. After High School graduation in 1952, Walter joined the US Air Force.

While serving at Druex AB outside of Paris, France, Walter met the love of his life, Elaine Anita (Bolduc) Carpenter. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on January 12, 2019. Walter and Elaine had 3 children. Valerie, born in 1959; John, born in 1960; and Diane, born in 1962.

Walter served 26 years in the United States Air Force and enjoyed military life very much.
