Invention The microwave oven was invented accidentally in 1945 by Percy Spencer, a Raytheon engineer. While testing a magnetron, he noticed microwaves melted a candy bar in his pocket. Experimenting further, he discovered microwaves could cook food quickly. Raytheon patented the process, and by 1947, they built the first commercial microwave oven, called the 'Radarange.' Initially used in commercial settings, microwaves becomes affordable for home use by the 1960s and 1970s, revolutionizing cooking.

Obituary
The Rev. Jon William Day, 77, of Bloomfield and Windham, beloved husband for 55 years of Dorothy (Rook) Day, passed away peacefully on Friday, (September 6, 2013) surrounded by his family at Hartford Hospital. Born in Syracuse, NY on March 21, 1936, son of the late James Robert and Claudia (Race) Day, he was raised in Syracuse, NY and had spent most of his life in Windsor and Bloomfield. Rev. Day graduated from Smith Technical High School in Syracuse, NY and then continued his education at St. Lawrence University and the University of Connecticut. He later received the calling to ministry and graduated from the Hartford Seminary with a Masters in Divinity. After graduating from seminary, he served as pastor or associate pastor at several churches in Connecticut including the First Church in Windsor, Congregational. After discerning the need for counseling clergy in the Hartford area, Rev. Day started his own pastoral counseling practice in Windsor. He was a longtime member of the
