Death of Fred P. Spofford Yesterday After Short Illness
Greene, April 1 - The death of Fred P. Spofford occurred this morning at 10.40, after only a short illness. For about two weeks he has been in poor health, but a week ago he suffered a shock from which he never regained consciousness. His death causes sorry to many people, for he had a wide acquaintance, and many friends. Mr. Spofford's age was fifty nine years, eleven months and fifteen days. He was born in Greene, the son of Jacob and Rosetta Pratt Spofford, and his home has always been in this town. About thirty three years ago he married Alice Parker of this town, and they went to housekeeping in the house where C. B. Staples now lives. Later they lived on the farm which Mr. Green now owns, and about twenty ? years ago they purchased the place where they have since resided. Mr. Spofford was a prominent member of the Androscoggin Grange. He was a blacksmith by trade and he worked at this and at farming. He leaves a widow, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Lois Creamer, a nephew Edson Spofford of Sabattus, an uncle Charles Pratt of Boston, also several cousins.
