Obituary

MILTON - Joseph Peter Rowe, age 87, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning on June 23, 2012, in Milton, with his family by his side.

Joe, as he was known to many (and Manny to his closest friends) was a fun-loving man who always had a smile. He always looked at the bright side of things and encouraged the people around him to do the same. His humor was as infectious as his smile.

Born on March 9, 1925, in Milton, the son of Abram and Clara (Gabaree) Rowe-Murray, Joe spent most of his life working on the family farm before he went out on his own.

On Feb. 24, 1962, he married the former Barbara LaFrance, who predeceased him on June 13, 2002.

Joe and Barb raised two girls, Mary and Judy. Together they lived on Rowe Road where Joe farmed until the mid 1980's, when he retired.

Joe was very active in retirement. He was a member of the Milton Eagles Club, the Swanton VFW Post 778 Men's Auxiliary, the Milton Grange, and the 55-Plus Ski Club. At age 75, Joe won gold medals in two downhill skiing events in New Hampshire for his age group. His love for skiing was matched by his love for his family, a good joke and good music to dance to. Joe is survived by his two daughters, Mary Magnuson and Judy Paxman; as well as their spouses, Ron Magnuson and Adam Paxman. He will be greatly missed by his many friends, as well as his favorite (and only) grandchild, Alexandria Paxman; his sister, Rose LaRochelle; and his many nieces and nephews.

The family will be hosting a celebration of Joe's life at the Milton Eagles Club on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. Dress will be casual, food will be plentiful and we hope you will find a moment to visit, dance or tap your toes in celebration of a life well lived.
