F. Austin “Austy” Walsh 93
Fitchburg:F. Austin “Austy” Walsh, 93, of 35 Carriageway Drive, Fitchburg, died Wednesday(Nov.5) in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital, after a brief illness.
His wife of 61 years, Winifred G. (Gallagher) Walsh, died in July of 2002.
He leaves one sister, Alice Collette of Ashburnham;a sister-in-law, Mary Murray of Leominster;and many nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Paul Walsh and one sister, Merriam Walsh.
Mr. Walsh was a Stock Clerk at the former General Electric Company in Fitchburg for 24 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Bernard's(TM)s Parish in Fitchburg, the American Legion Post #10, and was a 1928 graduate of Fitchburg High School. He was a veteran of World War 11, U.S. Army, serving in the 81st Infantry Division as a Private First Class in the Western Pacific-Southern Philippine Theatre.
He was born in Fitchburg, on October 27, 1910, a son of the late Frederick and Alice (Malley) Walsh, and lived here all of his life.
A Military Funeral will be held on Friday(Nov.7) from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at Noon in St. Bernard's(TM)s Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's(TM)s Cemetery, Fitchburg.
