W. T. Hyde,83, Dies; Funeral Is Saturday Cooperstown -- William Truslow, 83 aging resident of this community, died of a stroke shortly after 10 yesterday morning in Ihe Winter House on the Hyde estate, Lake Road. The Rev. Duncan Fraser, will officiate at funeral services to be held at 2 p. m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal Church here. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Cooperstown. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Mr. Hyde, son of Ralph Hyde and Mary Seaman (Truslow) was born on February 4, , In Newark, N. J. After formal schooling he registered for law courses at the College of the City of New York and later passed his bar examination. He never practiced law, however, being more interested in a career in finance. He became a member of the New York Stock Exchange and, until his retirement in 1940, held a seat for 40 years. He also was a member of the Athletic Club and the Metropolitan, New York, and the Saddle and Sirloin, Chicago. On Nov. 7, 1895, he married Miss Isobel Ballard Marks, in New York City in a ceremony at the Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy. Mr. and Mrs. Hyde lived in New York and Greenwich, Conn., before moving to Cooperstown in 1910. Their Lake Road estate is one of the county's showplaces. Mr. Hyde was active in both church and civic affairs. Some thirty years ago, when a trolley still ran from here to Index, he agreed to re-pave the Main Street if the village would tear up the tracks and also plant trees along the sidewalk. When the question of installing parking meters came before the Village Board last year, he violently opposed the proposition on grounds that the instruments would "mar the beauty" of the village streets. The meter proposition has been in abeyance ever since. For some time after coming here to live, Mr. Hyde was a breeder of purebred Ayrshire catlle. He also imported purebred Cheviot sheep from England and was Instrumental in furthering interest in the breed in the country. He won many prizes at the annual International Livestock Show in Chicago. He was a charter member of The Cooperstown Country Club and commodore of Otsego Lake's Star-class fleet. In recent years he became interested in flowers, a hobby which led him to membership in the Lake and Valley Garden Club. He owned many important parcels of property here. Surviving besides his wife are four children, Mrs. Robert Johnston Jr., Cooperstown; Mrs. James H. Marr, Southboro, Mass.; Mrs George E. Doty, Winnetka, Ill. and William Truslow Hyde Jr, Pleasantvllle. N. Y.
