PICARD - nickname given to someone who is from Picardy, a former province in northern France. They were nicknamed by this name when they arrived in Canada a long time ago. They were 18 siblings. Jean Picard was born and baptized on November 13, 1635 in La Villette, Calvados, France. Son of Pierre Picquard and Renée de Suraune, he married Marie Caron, daughter of Robert and Marie Crevet, on July 28, 1656 in Quebec. The couple have 1 daughter. Arrived in 1645, this prosperous merchant lived on the Côte de Beaupré, where he was a churchwarden, and in Quebec. November 18, 1663, in Château-Richer, widower, he marries Marie-Madeleine Gagnon, daughter of Mathurin and Françoise Godeau with whom he has 7 children. In 1683, he married Marie-Anne Fortin, daughter of Julien and Geneviève Gamache in Cap Tourmente and had 2 children. He was buried on November 29, 1700 in Quebec.
