Biography

RICHARD - from the Germanic name RICHARD, composed of 'ric' which means 'powerful' and 'hard' which means 'hard, strong'. 1) Pierre Richard was born and baptized on January 29, 1646 in St-Georges-des-Coteaux, Charente-Maritime, France. Son of Antoine Richard and Olive Noël-Nouel, he married Françoise Miville, daughter of François and Marie Langlois, on November 6, 1680 in Cap-St-Ignace. From this union were born 12 children. Arrived in the country in 1673, he settled in the Lordship of Vincelotte (Cap-St-Ignace). In 1681, he owns 2 guns, 1 horned beast and 8 acres of land. He died and was buried on February 13, 1719 at Cap St-Ignace. He leaves behind a house, an old barn and a stable. 2) François Richard is the son of the merchant Jean Richard and Anne Christin, and he comes from Auray, in Brittany. He married Anne Comeau (24), daughter of Jean Comeau and Françoise Hébert, and widow of Louis D'Amours-de-Chauffours, on October 29, 1710 in Port-Royal, Acadia. From their union were born 5 children. A widower, he married Marie Martin, daughter of René Martin and Marie Mignier, on October 26, 1722 in Port-Royal. From their union were born 3 children. The date of his death is unknown. 3) Michel Richard was born around 1719 in St-Malo, Île-et-Vilaine, France. Son of Jean-Baptiste Richard and Jeanne Gauthier, he married Marie-Angélique Mercier, daughter of Julien and Marie-Agnès Meunier, on November 21, 1746 in St-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud. From this union were born 13 children. He settled in St-Vallier, where he died on March 1, 1793.
