BENNINGTON - Mary Jane Blanchette, 74, of Bennington, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013, in Peterborough, after losing her longtime battle with heart disease.

Mary Jane was born in Leominster, MA, on December 7, 1938, the youngest child of George and Louise (Thomas) Ashey.

She grew up at St. Annes French Canadian Orphanage in Worcester, MA, until moving to Leominster. She was a longtime resident of Lancaster, MA, where she raised her family, before moving to Bennington in 1987 where she lived since. She was a member of St. Patrick's church in Bennington and the Wellness Center in Peterborough. She was a talented, self-taught seamstress and crocheter. She enjoyed making and baking gifts for others. She was loved by everyone who met her. She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, auntie, godmother, and friend to so many. The role she enjoyed most was Memere to her grandchildren, whom she showered with so much love!

Janey leaves her beloved husband of 54 years, Paul N. Blanchette of Bennington; her daughter Lisa Breen and her husband, Tom, of Rye Beach; her sons Jay Blanchette of Bennington and Dave Blanchette and his wife, Tammie, of Francestown, NH; her brother Gerald Ashey of Leominster, MA; her grandchildren Stacy, Ricky, Ross, Paul, Noah and Lucas; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and life long friends.

She is predeceased by her eldest son, Mark Blanchette, who recently died October 9, 2012; her sisters Ada Minkkinen, Gloria Shaw, Phyllis Mitchell, Evelyn Bates; and her brothers Robert, Raymond, Johnny, Billy, Patrick, and James Ashey.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at St. Peter of Divine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine St., Peterborough, with burial immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery in Bennington. Donations may be made to The Bond Wellness Center Fund, Monadnock Community Hospital, c/ o Philanthropy, 452 Old Street Road, Peterborough NH 03458.
