1827 - Fatal Accident
![]()
An old lady, named Hannah Tobit, who had been living in Middletown, in this county, for the last few months, walked out with a little girl on Saturday afternoon last, about two miles from town, to pick some cheeries. They both ascended the tree, and had remained but a few minutes, when the limb broke on which the old lady was seated, and she fell to the ground. The child immediately gave the alarm to some persons at work in the neighboring field, who repaired to the spot immediately, but found her expiring. In her bosom was a purse containing ten dollars, and on laying her out, a belt was observed around her body containing twenty dollars more. - Winchester, Va. Repub.
