JOY, Richard Frederick (retired Teacher - Sault Ste Marie) Peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 at the age of 81 years. Richard Joy, beloved husband and best friend of Lois Anne Miller. Loving father of Michael (Joanne), Darren (Haley) of Toronto, Jodi (Tom Gaughan), Dean (Lorrie) of Hong Kong, Mary-Love (Craig) of Brisbane, Australia, Randi-Lee (Ryan Dunlop) and Neil Joy. Cherished 'Papa" to his grandchildren Samantha, Jesse, Tyler, Noah, Keira, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Mason, Violet, Alice and Nathan. Richard was dedicated to his family and his faith, he also contributed to the lives of numerous youth through guidance, counseling and coaching. His many years in the classroom, on the court, or on a field; made a difference in teaching young people the lessons of hard work, winning or losingbut always giving it your best. The family would like to thank the Staff of Laurier Manor for their dedication and compassion. Friends may pay respects to the family at the Whelan Funeral Home, 515 Cooper St (between Bay and Lyon) on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St Mary's Parish, (Yonge and Bayswater). A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow in the church hall. Interment to follow at Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations to The Companions of the Cross greatly appreciated by the family.
