Elizabeth Lorraine (Young) Galavotti, 84, died peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield to the late J.O. and Ruby (Johnson) Young, she was a lifelong Wilbraham resident. A graduate of Simmons College, Betty dedicated her life to raising her six children. She was predeceased by her husband Louis J. Galavotti in 1997. She will be sadly missed by her six children; Anne E. Briggs and her husband Gary of Wilbraham, L. Joseph Galavotti and his wife Cynthia of Hampden, Christine Galavotti and her husband Chuck Williams of Atlanta, GA, Cathy Galavotti and her husband Antone Pires of Los Osos, CA, Ginger Rasid and her husband Johan of Wilbraham and Laurie Anti of Wilbraham. She was the loving "Grandma B" to her seven cherished grandchildren; Karen and her husband Sean, Daniel, Nicholas, Casey, Louis, Will and Layla and her partner Arthur Howland of Hampden, MA and Leesburg, FL. Betty leaves behind many friends and extended family. Betty was an avid golfer and a member of Ludlow Country Club. She loved to dance and kept her mind in shape by doing crossword puzzles and the daily jumble. She will be remembered for her clever way with words, her direct witty responses, her delicious baked treats and the Scrabble marathons so enjoyed by her competitive daughters. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 9th at 4:00 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. An hour of visitation will precede the service on Monday from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. A private burial will take place in MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. For 13 years, Betty and her family organized a memorial golf tournament in honor of her late husband to benefit Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baystate Hospice & VNA, c/ o Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., 6th floor, Springfield, MA 01199.
