Obituary

Isaac Robb, sr., 79, a veteran of the Civil war, who was wounded twice in battle, died at 11 o'clock Friday night in his home at 121 Williams street. He had been in failing health since last spring with brights disease and complications, but was about the house as usual on Friday morning, suddenly collapsing after doing the morning work about his place. He was born in Champlain, N. Y., Jan. 20, 1847, a son of John and Maria (McKenzie) Robb. Soon after his birth the family moved to Troy, N. Y. On Oct. 8, 1866, he married Clara S. Matthews of Albany, N. Y., who survives. She was a daughter of Capt. William H. and Catherine (Sheffield) Matthews, and her great-grandfather was General Slater, prominent in the War of 1812. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Robb, seven of whom survive: Judge Charles H. Robb of the court of appeals for the District of Columbia, at Washington, D. C.; Dr. William M. Robb of Boston; Mrs. George Root of Waltham, Mass.; Frank E. Robb of Pasadena, Calif.; Isaac Robb, jr., of West Brattleboro; Clinton C. Robb of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. C. Victor Grant of Brattleboro. A son, Buell M. Robb, died in Greenfield 11 years ago. For over 40 years Mr. Robb successfully carried on a farm in West Guilford which he owned, later moving to West Brattleboro, where he bought the so-called David Perry place of which he lived five years. He later bought the E. L. Roberts house on Western avenue, which he sold in 1923 and moved to Williams street. Mr. Robb enlisted in April, 1803, when less than 16 years of age, as a rescruit in the 98th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was sounded twice during his service. He was with his company from the time of enlistment until the regiment was discharged. He was a member of Sedgwick post, G. A. R. The funeral was Monday morning at 10 o'clock in his home, and was private, Rev. Edwin P. Wood, pastor of All Souls church, officiated. The bears were Isaac Robb, jr. Hermon Robb, Charles Robb and Chester Robb. The burial took place in Greenfield, Mass. Those who attended from out of town were his sons, Judge Charles H. Robb and Clinton C. Robb of Washington, D. C., and his daughter, Mrs. George Root of Medford, Mass., and Mrs. Arthur Norton and children of Westfield, Mass.
