Obituary



Brasher Falls —Roderick J. Mahoney, died on Nov. 1, 1965 at Massena Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1909 in Helena, son of Jeremiah and Ella Dawson Mahoney. He was graduated from Mount Assumption Institute, Plattsburgh in 1928 and from Niagara University in 1932. He served both as teacher and principal at Helena School for 10 years, and also was employed at Alcoa for a time. In 1943 Mr. Mahoney was elected supervisor of the town of Brasher, and served in that post for a total of 20 years, during which time he was a member of many important County Board committees.

He married Miss Nancy Lantry, daughter of Mr. an Mrs. Barney Lantry of Helena on Dec. 26, 1940. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Hogansburg and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Brasher Falls, and the New York State Supervisors Association.

He is survived by his wife, who teaches at Hogansburg; nine children, Miss Mary Ellen Mahoney, a teacher in the West Seneca School system, near Buffalo; Jeremiah Mahoney, teacher in the Malone system; Mrs. Edward (Martha) Hourihan, North Lawrence; Miss Patricia Mahoney, beautician in Syracuse; Thomas, 18, Nancy 17, and Marcella 15, all students in St. Lawrence Central School at Brasher Falls; Barbara 13 and Lucille 8, students in St. Patricks School in Brasher Falls. Also surviving are three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Mahoney O'Neil, wife of chief of police Thomas O'Neil, Massena and Mrs. Gordon (Maria) Wieand, Newton Square, PA and a brother, Dennis Mahoney of Helena.

Burial was made in St. Patrick cemetery in Brasher Falls.
