1914 - Believes Husband Dead - Mrs. Salisbury Places No Credence In Reports That He Is Alive

Placing no credit in stories that have been circulated that her husband, Sherman S. Salisbury is alive and working at a lumber camp in the Adirondack Mountains near Tupper Lake, Mrs. Salisbury stated today that she had received no information that would lead her to believe that her husband, who has been missing since Oct. 28, was at any of the lumber camps in that district and that she placed no credence in any of the reports.

'John M. Hyde, head of the Black River Paper Company by which Mr. Salisbury has been employed has been all over the ground three times', said Mrs. Salisbury, 'and has been unable to locate Mr. Salisbury and if he was in that section as reported I know that I should have learned about it at once. I believe that Sherman if alive would write to me and let me know in someway where he was.'

Asked for her opinion as to a solution of the mystery, Mrs. Salibury replied: 'I believe that Mr. Salisbury is dead, the victim of foul play. I have believed this from the start for the reason that if he was alive he would write and let me know. He thought a great deal of his home and of his family and I have had no word from him since that last telegram when he said that he would be home in a day or two, probably on the Monday or Tuesday before Coventry Tuesday. He was at Malone at that time. It is a wild country up there and the only possible solution seems to be that someone, believing that he had a large amount of money with him, killed him.'

'Mr. Salisbury collected for his firm but the most of his payments were in checks and he had only $130 in money with him at the time of his disappearance.'

Officials in the counties where Salisbury was last seen are still continuing the hunt and it is believed that if he is alive that perhaps he is mentally unbalanced which might account for his sudden and strange disappearance. The sample case which Mr. Salisbury uses was found at Tupper Lake.
