Obituary

Ann Marie Drachler English, 86, died May 5, 2013 at Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton, NY after a long illness. The widow of Peter C. English, she was born the fourth daughter of the late William and Edith Bourgarde Drachler on April 24, 1927, in Greene, NY, where she was a lifelong resident. Before starting her family, she was employed briefly at the Lyon-Raymond Corporation and then served as church secretary at Zion Episcopal Church for many years. Ann was an avid knitter, creating sweaters, baby shawls and afghans but her greatest accomplishment was knitting over 200 special Christmas stockings for family and friends through the years, causing many to hope she had drawn their name for Christmas. She also had a great love for her garden, nurturing plants and flowers that had been grown from plants her mother had in her garden. She and her late husband treasured their dream home on a lake, where they lived for the past 35 years. She is survived by her son, Peter (Julie) English, Jr., Stow, OH; and daughters, Susan English Kaarlsen, of San Antonio, TX and Martha (Joseph) Pyles, of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Karen Kaarlsen Cinelli, Kevin Kaarlsen, Shawn Kaarlsen, Elizabeth Barden Takacs, Cynthia Barden Gorman, Kathleen Barden Maloney, Jonathan English and Ketha English Earp; and 13 great-grandchildren: Noah and Chloe Cinelli, Jessica and Kevin Kaarlsen, Mollie, Mallorie and Gehryt Kaarlsen, Aidan and Madison Takacs, Genevieve, Elijah and Gabriel Gorman and CarrieElla Maloney. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carrie Lynne; a son, Timothy William; and son-in-law, Clarke Kaarlsen. In addition, she is survived by her brother, William C. (Carol) Drachler, and her brother-in-law, Paul (Sue) English all of Greene; a number of loving nieces and nephews and several cherished friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Learned, Grace Schlageter and Katherine Mueller. Cremation will occur followed by burial in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the family's convenience. An announcement will be made of the time and place. The family would like to thank the Staff at Elizabeth Church Manor for the kind and loving care Ann received while a resident at their facility. It made being so far away easier for all of us. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 401 Hayes Ave., Endicott, NY 13760. Arrangements are under direction of Root Funeral Home 23 N. Chenango Street Greene, New York 13778 and condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com
