LEARNED. Ret. Lt. Col. Franklyn E. Learned, 77, of Stafford Springs and South Yarmouth, Mass., died Wednesday (Nov. 13, 1985) at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, Mass. He was born In Pittsfield, Mass., and came to Stafford Springs 60 years ago. He attended Dean Academy in Franklin, Mass., and had attended New York University and played football under Chick Meagen. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army World War II. He received his master's degree from the University of Hartford. He also retired, after 38 years of service, from the State Department of Education, where he was director of Driver Education for the state. He had charge of all veterans services and also approved all non-degree granting schools. He had served on the Court of Burgess in, Stafford Springs for a number of years. He had coached the Stafford Olympic Football team many years. He was a member of St. Edward parish, Strazza-Tonoll-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion, VFW Post No. 9990, all of Stafford, the Italian Benefit Society, the Stafford Fish 8, Game Club and the Officers Club of Hartford. He Is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary (O'Halloran) Learned of Stafford Springs and Yarmouth, Mass.; a son, Edward F. Learned of Stafford Springs; a daughter, Mary Sara Learned of West Roxbury, Mass.; a brother, Howard Learned of Old Saybrook; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at Introvlgne Funeral Home Inc., 95 E. Main St., Stafford Springs, with a mass of Christian burial, 12 noon, In St. Edward's Church. Burial will follow In St. Edward's Cemetery. Calling hours are today, 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Edward's School Fund, 101 High St., Stafford Springs 06076.
