Sherman Smith SALISBURY
1905 - Run Down by Auto - Sherman S. Salisbury Laid Up as a Result of Accident
Sherman S. Salisbury was run down and quite painfully injured by an automobile near the corner of State and Dill Streets Saturday afternoon. The auto was being driven by Frank Shaw and he came from the garage in Dill Street at a high rate of speed. In making the turn into Dill Street he struck the rear wheel of the bicycle which Mr. Salisbury was riding. Mr. Salisbury was thrown to the pavement with great force, bruising his right knee, tearing his trousers and bruising and scraping the skin from both hands. Shaw was unable to make the turn into State Street after the accident happened and steered his machine into the laneway in the rear of the Whiting flour store, where it was stopped.
Mr. Salisbury did not think his injuries were serious at the time, but later in the evening his bruised knee commenced to swell and became very painful. He is now under the care of Dr. J. P. Creveling. Many narrow escapes are seen daily at this corner as the automobiles of all shapes and sizes whiz back and forth.
