Obituary

Olivia Beatrice "Polly" Crouss, 99, passed away on Mother's Day, May 11, 2014, in Virginia Beach, VA, with her family by her side. She was born in Norfolk, VA, on May 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Zeller and Sadie Daniel. Polly was predeceased by her husband, Herman F. Crouss, Sr.; her son, Herman F. "Skip" Crouss, Jr.; and nine siblings. With the exception of a few moves during her husband's naval career, Polly was a lifelong Tidewater resident. Her family will miss her stories of days gone by, her positive outlook on life, and her famous chicken and dumplings. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose ceaseless support will also be greatly missed. No matter the circumstances, Polly always made time to attend as many recitals, sporting events, graduations, and weddings as possible and she was always happy to join in on a game or puzzle. She was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family and her God. All who knew her will miss her warm smile and sweet spirit. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gloria French and husband, Donald, of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren, Christopher French and wife, Laura, of Roanoke, VA, and Amy French-Troy and husband, Michael, of Longmont, CO; Hollie Huffman and husband, Brad, of Norfolk, VA, and Rebecca Colbert and husband, Chris, of Chesapeake, VA; daughter-in-law, Julie Crouss; and great grandchildren, Rachael and Reagan French, Emmett and Polly Troy, Laina and Allen Huffman, and Zachary, Adyson and Chloe Colbert. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 16, 2014, at 2 PM at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with Rev. C. Jason Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
