1886 - Sensible Advice to Miners

News
(Mauch Chunk Times.)

Thursday was said to be the day on which the miners of the Hazleton region would strike for a reduction in the price of supplies and a raise of ten per cent, in wages. This striking business has in the past proven very disastrous to the miners, but it is thought that on account of the organization of the men things will be different this time. There is really no certainty that the strike will occur and we hope it will not for many reasons. The operators can afford a strike now as they are not making much by carrying on their business, while the employes who have families to keep will feel it very much, and the general business of the region will become terribly depressed. Under the present condition of things we think it far better for the men to wait.
