1885 - FIRE AT CLINTONVILLE.

Clintonville, Wis., July 6 - Clintonville suffered another conflagration at 10 o’clock Saturday night to the extent of the entire destruction of H. W. Pickard’s saw mill. The mill was located at honey creek railway bridge, and had a capacity of seven to ten thousand feet per day. Within ten minutes the entire structure was enveloped in flames. The fire department could do no service other than prevent damage to the railway bridge and numerous cedar posts and logs about the yard. The cause of the fire is unknown, but is supposed to have occurred by firecrackers or the dropping of a cigar in or near the mill. No fire had been made in the furnace for several days. There being no insurance on the property, the blow is a heavy one upon the owner, as he had “his all” invested therin. The entire loss will not fall short of $2,700 to $3,000.
