Broke Her Arm
Gladys Theinert of Lewiston met with a painful accident while visiting Sunday at Mr. Spofford's place, which is situated a short distance beyond Sabattus.
She was playing with a calf which was hitched in the yard, and one of the adults standing near placed the little miss astride the calf in view of giving her a ride. The calf did not like the proceedings and kicked up its heels and started at a live rate about the yard. During the fracas the child was thrown to the ground and her left arm broken. She was taken to the Central Maine General Hospital, the bone set and the child is now resting comfortably. She is only four years old.

"The following article appeared in the July 8, 1904 “Daily Kennebec Journal:
“Sebattus Casualties – Five year old daughter of William Theinert, Overseer at Webster Woolen Mill #1 ½ was thrown from the back of a pet calf with which she was playing and received a bad fracture at the left elbow joint. There is almost a certainty of a stiffening of the joint. The child was taken to the Central Maine General Hospital.”"
"The 1910 census lists a Gladys E. Theinert, born 1898 living in the Webster, Androscoggin, ME area with the Spoffard family … and a boarder Elbridge Libby.
The form lists her father born in MA; mother in ME which is in keeping with the birth locations of William and Alice. Perhaps the Spoffards were Alice’s family. I am firmly convinced that Gladys is the child thrown from the back of the pet calf. The last Theinert I could find in ME was in the 1908 directory: Alice A. Theinert (no age) boards at 185 Main, Lewiston."
