Bette Jayne Plaza Obituary
St. Albans, Maine - Bette Jayne Plaza, 79, left our world Tuesday, October 15, 2024, to be reunited in love with those who have gone on before her and whom she missed greatly. Bette was born Friday, April 27, 1945, to Stephen F. Plaza and Jayne O. (Korch) Plaza, and lived a pleasant childhood in Dudley, MA.

Many memories of time spent with her Polish aunts, uncles, cousins, and paternal grandmother, "Babu," would fill her eyes with warmth. As did the trips her father would take their family on whether for business or pleasure, especially the one to Acadia National Park in Maine which left a lasting impression on her heart. Even being chased by her grandmother's rooster as a kid would light her eyes with laughter. Her stories and memories of a precious time will be cherished and missed.

In high school, Bette was a member of the FTA, Library Service Club, French Club, and class committees. She was the catcher for the girl's softball team and given the honorable nickname, "Yogi Berra." Upon graduation in 1963, Bette was awarded a full scholarship to attend the School of Practical Art in Boston, MA, in the fall of that same year to become a commercial artist. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be, and Bette's artistic talents were eventually expressed as a beautician in Fall River, MA, where for $0.90/ hr., she used her skills to create beauty for others while managing the shop.

To Westport, MA., Bette next went working in home health care, at Figueiredo's Greenhouse, and taking classes for nursing at Bristol Community College in Fall River. She also began making homemade, fresh-from-the-garden provisions to sell roadside at "Bette Jayne's Jams Jellies." She enjoyed the process of planting something, watching it grow, and developing into something beautiful. Bette's greatest joy was in the nurturing of her 6 children during these years and thereafter.

In 1986, Bette moved to Dixmont then Plymouth, ME, and by 1992, achieved the goal she set for herself and her children, when she graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Thus began a fruitful career providing care, compassion, and dignity to the many patients she tended in their times of need. Bette believed kindness, an open heart, and lending an ear went a long, long way. Eventaully settling in Saint Albans, ME, with some time in Brewer, Bette was fortunate to have good neighbors, a handful of genuine care providers, and was always thankful for time with family.

Bette's light has not gone out. It shines bright in the hearts of her 6 children, Michael Silva, Chandra Silva, Christopher Silva, Matthew Silva, Joshua Silva, and Elizabeth Silva. In their significant others; her 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 siblings; extended family; and her loving dog, Molly, her memory shall stay. Gone before Bette were her parents; her brother, Stephen Plaza Jr.; extended family; special friends; and her 3 beloved dogs, Dakota, Hannah, and Sandy.

A private celebration of Bette's life will be held with her children and close family in the beauty she loved of Acadia National Park. To honor Bette and her memory, take pause in nature, lifting your face to the sun. Listen to the music of a songbird. Sit still by yourself or sit still with others. Give companionship. Lend an ear. Be patient and be present.
