New Marlborough, Berkshire, MA
New Marlborough was established as one of the four townships opened along the road between Sheffield and Westfield. The land was purchased from the local Native Americans (a band of Mohican Indians) by 72 proprietors from Marlborough, Massachusetts and vicinity, and the deed to the land was certified by the General Court in Boston in 1736. wikipedia

New Marlborough, Massachusetts
Berkshire county. There is a large pond in this town and a branch of Housatonick river. The surface is uneven, and the soil best adapted for grazing. It was incorporated in 1759, and lies 135 miles S.W. by W. from Boston, and 20 S. by E. from Lenox. Population, in 1837, 1,570.
There are two caverns in this town, containing stalactites. The manufactures consist of leather, boots, shoes, chairs, cabinet ware, and a variety of sawed lumber.—The products of the dairy are considerable, and about 1,600 sheep are pastured.

New Marlborough was called Housatonic Township, No. 2, until its incorporation.
It was named by the first settlers, who chiefly came from Marlborough, in Middlesex county.
The surface is hilly, and in some places stony. Here are some fine ponds whose outlets water the town, and run into the Housatonic.
A cavern in the west part of the town, and a rocking-stone near the centre, are great natural curiosities.
Distance from Lenox, 20 miles; from Boston, 130.

New Marlborough is a large and handsome town in the southern part of Berkshire County, having for its boundaries, Great Barrington on its northwest corner, Monterey on the north, Sandisfield on the east, Sheffield on the west, and Canaan and Norfolk in Connecticut on the south. The general form of the town is that of a parallelogram, with its length north and south. The assessed area is 28,569 acres; there are 9,304 acres of forest. The formative rock is ferruginous gneiss, Potsdam and Levis limestone. From the latter large quantities of the "Hadsell lime" have been manufactured. In the western part of the town is a valuable bed of white porcelain clay, which is being wrought with profit. A curiosity of the town is a rock weighing 40 or 50 tons, so nicely poised that it can easily be moved by the hand. The scenery is diversified and romantic.
