Londonderry was first chartered in 1770 by New York to one Col. James Rogers and was known as Kent which then included what is now Windham. The town was again chartered by act of the new Vermont Legislature on April 20, 1780. In this charter the township was named Londonderry after Londonderry, N.H.

Londonderry, Vermont
Windham county. West river passes through this town and receives several tributaries in it. The land on the streams is rich and fertile; the uplands are good for grazing, except those parts that are mountainous. First settled 1774. Population, 1830, 1,302. It lies 28 miles S.W. from Windsor and 30 N.E. from Bennington.
The New England Gazetteer containing descriptions of all the states, counties and towns in New England: also descriptions of the principal mountains, rivers lakes, capes, bays, harbors, islands and fashionable resorts within that territory. There are in this town two pleasant villages.

Boundaries. North by Weston and a part of Landgrove, east by Windham, south by Jamaica, and west by Landgrove.

First Settlers. The settlement of this township was commenced in 1774, by James Rogers, S. Thompson, and Jas. Patterson, from Londonderry, New Hampshire.

First Minister. Elder David Sweet was ordained over the Baptist Church in this place in 1820.

Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 1,066 bushels; Indian corn, 2,164 bushels; potatoes, 41,579 bushels; hay, 3,422 tons; maple sugar, 21,076 pounds; wool, 9,197 pounds.

Distances. Twenty-eight miles southwest from Windsor, and thirty northeast from Bennington.

Londonderry, a post-village of Windham co., Vt. in Londonderry township, on West River, about 30 miles by E. of Rutland. It has a church and a woollen factory. Pop. of the township, 1252.
