La Durantaye is a parish municipality in the regional county municipality of Bellechasse, located in the administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches.

This territory is located south of Saint-Michel, at the foot of the Appalachians, and the mountains cut the southern horizon of the parish.

La Durantaye is the only village in Bellechasse to take shape around a railway station. Indeed, the village developed around the small station of Saint-Michel station with the advent of the railway in the north of the region.

1672 - Seigniory (La Duranatie) Granted Oct. 29th, 1672, to Sieur de la Durantaie
The history of the municipality begins in 1672 when the intendant of New France Jean Talon concedes the seigneury of La Durantaye to the captain of the Carignan-Salières regiment Olivier Morel de La Durantaye (1640-1716) who had arrived in New France in 1665.

1832 - LA DURANTAIE,
seigniory, and augmentation in the co. of Bellechasse, front the St. Lawrence. Bounded S.W. by Beaumont; N.E. by Berthier; in the rear by the T. of Armagh and the S. of St. Gervais. - 2 leagues in breadth by 2 in depth. Granted Oct. 29th, 1672, to Sieur de la Durantaie: the augmentation of the same dimensions, was granted to Sieur de la Durantaie, May 1st, 1693. - The grant and augmenation are now divided in equal proportions into the two seigniories of St. Michel and St. Vallier, to which the reader is referred.

The name Saint-Gabriel Archange was attributed to the municipality and the parish created in 1910. The first mass was celebrated in the CN station on June 1, 1910. From 1913, the municipality was called Saint-Gabriel -de-La-Durantaye.
