Historically, the real beginnings of settlement, which began timidly at the end of the 18th century by people from L'Acadie and Saint-Philippe, date back to 1830, with the founding of the mission of Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur, canonically erected in 1834 and civilly in 1857 as a parish.

On the municipal level, a first creation occurred in 1845 and the parish municipality became part of the county municipality of L'Acadie in 1847. New erection in 1855, under the same name as the parish and the post office established in 1851 , this one coming from the geographical location of the place, near Saint-Philippe. However, Philip and James the Minor, both apostles, were celebrated on the same day, May 11, according to the liturgical calendar. James the Minor, that is to say, the youngest, would be the son of Alphaeus, considered one of the first religious leaders of Jerusalem, presumed author of an Epistle which bears his name. He would have perished by stoning in the year 62.
