Delhi, a post-township in the N. E. central part of Delaware county, New York. Population, 2909.

Delhi, a post-village in the above township, capital of Delaware county, New York, on the Coquago river, a branch of the Delaware, 77 miles W. S. W. from Albany. It contains a court house, several churches, a bank, 2 newspaper offices, and an academy.

DELHI, a township of Delaware co., in the state of New York, U.S., 77 m. WSW of Albany, intersected by the branches of the Delaware which form the Mohawks or W branch of the Delaware. The surface is hilly, but the soil in the valleys is generally fertile. Pop. in 1840, 2,554.

1895 - Delhi
Delhi, a post-village, capital of Delaware co., N.Y., is on the west or main branch of the Delaware River, about 68 miles W.S.W. of Albany, and on the Delhi Branch Railroad, which connects with the New York & Oswego Midland Railroad at Walton. It contains 5 churches, the Delaware Academy, a national bank, 3 private banks, a foundry, a woollen-mill, a creamery, and manufactures of carriages, sash, blinds, &c. Three weekly newspapers are published here. Butter, milk, and live-stock are the staple products of Delhi. Pop. 1564; of the township, 2908.

1907 - THREE GUESTS DIE IN BURNING DELHI HOTEL. OTHERS JUMP FROM THE WINDOWS IN THEIR NIGHT CLOTHES.
Delhi, Jan. 6. - Three lives were lost in a fire that destroyed the American Hotel at this place early today.

The dead are:
WILLIAM WINTER, druggist.
MRS. ANNA WINTER, his wife.
JOHN O'CONNOR, tailor.

All were residents of Delhi and permanent guests at the hotel. They had lived in Delhi for years are were prominent in the business community.

The fire was discovered in the apartment of MR. WINTER and his wife on the third floor, and by the time the firemen arrived the big three-story frame structure was a mass of flames. O'CONNOR also occupied apartments on the third floor. The other guests escaped by leaping from the windows in their night clothing.

The position of the bodies when recovered indicated that the victims were suffocated before the flames reached them.

Delhi, a banking post-village and summer-resort, capital of Delaware co., N.Y., is on the W. or main branch of the Delaware River, about 68 miles WSW. of Albany, on the New York, Ontario and Western R. It contains the Delaware Academy, silk-mills, and manufactures of cheese, condensed milk, carriages, etc. Butter, milk, and live-stock are extensively shipped. Pop. in 1900, 2078 ; of the township (town), 3243.
