History
From the history of our village
Compared to other neighboring villages, Vyšná Kamenica is the youngest municipality. It was mentioned for the first time in 1420, that is, at the beginning of the 15th century. The fact that it is the youngest village can be explained, according to the available historical materials, by the fact that at the end of the 13th century, the village of Púch existed north of Vyšná Kamenice. It was located about 3 km north of the current village. The last report on the village of Púch comes from 1370 and it says that it is a populous village with 12 estates. At the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, for unknown reasons, these inhabitants moved about 3 km below to the valley of the Kamenický potok and founded a new village.
The first reports about this newly settled village are from 1420, it is mentioned under the name Kemenche and it belonged to Andrej from Budimír. In the portal inventory from 1427, it already appears under today's name Vyšná... Read MORE...

About Vysna Kamenica
Perched in the eastern Slovak countryside like a quiet footnote in a long family chronicle, Vyšná Kamenica is one of those places where history doesn’t announce itself with trumpets, but hums steadily in the background. It’s small, rural, and deeply rooted, the kind of village that tends to show up not in travel brochures, but in baptismal records and old letters tied with fading ribbon.
Let’s walk through it, the way a genealogist or curious traveler might, step by step.
Where it sits on the map
Vyšná Kamenica lies in eastern Slovakia, not far from the regional anchor city of Košice. If Košice is the bustling marketplace with cafés, cathedrals, and modern life, Vyšná Kamenica is the quiet lane just outside town where time loosens its grip a bit.
The village is part of the Košice-okolie district, which literally means “Košice surroundings.” That tells you everything about its relationship to the city: close enough to feel its influence, far enough to keep its own... Read MORE...
