J. Danielson Lincoln Memorial Library
The library was a gift to the town from James Danielson Lincoln in memory of his mother, Sara Danielson, and his wife, Mrs. Eliza T.M. Lincoln. Sarah Danielson was the daughter of Timothy Danielson, one of Brimfield’s prominent Revolutionary War soldiers, and through her mother’s second marriage, Sarah was a step-daughter of General William Eaton of Barbery Pirate fame. She married Dr. Asa Lincoln, and in 1823 James Danielson Lincoln, the sixth of their ten children, was born. Sarah died when he was ten years old and James went to live with an aunt in Franklin. He later lived in Wrentham where he became a successful manufacturer of jewelry. In his old age he decided to realize a life-long desire to honor his mother’s memory through the gift of a library in Brimfield. brimfieldpubliclibrary.com

1848 - Brimfield
This town was granted by the general court, in the year 1701, to a number of petitioners, inhabitants of Springfield. The township as originally granted was 8 miles square, and was at first designated by the “Plantation adjoining Springfield;" but the committee, for the sake of convenience, as stated in the records, soon gave it the name of Brimfield. The first grants of land were made in December, 1701, to 13 persons. Very little seems to have been done towards the settlement of the place for a considerable time, owing probably to the embarrassments occasioned by the war with the French and Indians. In 1717, the proprietors’ committee petitioned for an extension of the township 3 miles further east, which was granted. After this the settlement progressed rapidly. Among the early settlers who came from Springfield are found the names of Sherman, Lombard, Pynchon, Hitchcock, Brooks, Morgan, Burt, Charles, Collins, Keep, Scott, Stebbins, Warriner. Nichols, Graves and Bliss. The Thomson... Read MORE...

1902 - MISSING HEIRS LOCATED - Bible Assists in Revealing Dead California Resident's Identity - The Relatives of Salem Charles, Who Left $142,000 Are Discovered in New England.
LOS ANGELES, Cal., July 19. - The mystery surrounding the identity of the man known as "Charles Hill," who died at the Good Samaritan Hospital here on May 17, leaving $142,000 in cash, has been solved. His real name was Salem Charles and his home was at Brimfield, Mass.
The story of the search for heirs by the Public Administrator and his attorney, Leon Moss, is interesting. After following up innumerable alleged "clues," all of which came to naught, Administrator Kelogg found among the old man's effects and old family Bible, on the fly leaf of which were written sentences almost faded and rendered illegible by age. The writing was magnified and the name of "Charles" and "Brim--, Mass.," were deciphered. Attorney Moss went to Brimfield, Mass., and without disclosing his identity found a family named Charles which had been prominent in that locality for 200 years. After a thorough investigation Moss became convinced that he had found the family of the deceased.
