Being one of the first villages located east of Saguenay along the north bank of the river of the same name , it is also known as Saint-Fulgence de L'Anse-au-Foin . The municipality is a member of the Fédération des Villages-relais du Québec.

The territory of Saint-Fulgence was colonized in 1839. The January 1, 1873, the parish municipality of Saint-Fulgence was established.
