Swans Island: Found in Hancock County, Swans Island is a small island community accessible by ferry. Known for its working waterfront and scenic beauty, it’s a haven for those seeking a peaceful retreat.

Swan’s Island was incorporated on March 26, 1897 from Swan’s Island Plantation.

In 1901 it annexed Calf and West Black Islands from Long Island Plantation. It is southeast of Mount Desert Island, accessible by ferry from Bass Harbor in Tremont. (not to be confused with Swan Island in the Kennebec River near Richmond)...

1906 - Swans Island
Swans Island, a post-township (town) of Hancock co., Me., about 25 miles SE. of Castine. It is on Swan's Island, which is in the Atlantic Ocean and is about 5 miles long and 2 1/ 2 miles wide. It has a safe and capacious harbor, which is seldom obstructed by ice. Pop. of the town in 1900, 758.
