Waterford is situated in the western part of the state, near the New Hampshire border.Waterford is characterized by its hilly and forested terrain, dotted with lakes, ponds, and rivers. It's part of the Lakes and Mountains region of Maine, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Waterford was incorporated in 1797. It lies 57 miles W. by S. from Augusta and 10 W. by S. from Paris. Population, in 1837, 1,297.
