Waterboro: Found in York County, Waterboro is a growing town with a mix of rural and suburban areas. It’s home to Little Ossipee Lake, a popular spot for swimming and boating.

It was part of an extensive tract of land purchased in 1661 by Major William Phillips of Saco from Chief Fluellin. Known as Massabesic Plantation, it included most of modern-day Waterboro, Alfred and Sanford...

On March 6, 1787, the Massachusetts General Court incorporated the township as Waterborough. In 1790, Old Corners became the site of the Court of General Sessions, although in 1805 the county seat shifted to Alfred. In 1895, the name was shortened to Waterboro.

East Waterboro is an unincorporated village in the town of Waterboro.

Waterborough, Maine
York county. This town is watered by a large and pleasant pond, which empties into Little Ossipee river, a branch of the Saco, and by the head branches of the Mousum, a stream which meets the ocean at Kennebunk. This is a flourishing town with a pleasant surface and good soil. It lies 81 miles S.W. from Augusta, 24 W. from Portland, and is bounded S. by Alfred. Incorporated, 1787. Population, 1830, 1,816; 1837, 1,953.
