Trenton was first organized from Township Number 1 East of Union River Livermore Survey (T1 EUR LS) as Number 1 East of Union River Plantation, and later incorporated as a town in 1789; Trenton set off land to Ellsworth in 1809; and set off land to form Hancock in 1828, annexed part of Eden (now Bar Harbor) in 1849; and set off land to Lamoine in 1870. familysearch.org

Trenton, Maine
Hancock county. Trenton is situated on a navigable passage between Frenchman's bay on the E., Union river on the W., and N. of the island town of Eden. It possesses great advantages for navigation, and a large portion of its people is engaged in ship building, the coasting trade, and fishery. Incorporated in 1789. Population, in 1837, 924. Trenton is 7 miles S. by E. from Ellsworth.
