Solon: Found in Somerset County, Solon is a picturesque town along the Kennebec River. It’s known for its scenic landscapes, hiking trails, and small-town charm.
Originally called T1 R2 EKR, the plantation was known as Spauldingtown after Thomas Spaulding, a grantee. It was settled in 1782 by William Hilton from Wiscasset, who purchased 500 acres (2.0 km2). On February 23, 1809, it was incorporated as Solon, named after Solon, a statesman and poet of Ancient Greece. wikipedia
Solon is situated in the western part of the state. Solon was first settled in the late 18th century, and it was officially incorporated as a town in 1809. The town's name is believed to have been inspired by the ancient Athenian statesman and lawmaker, Solon.
Like many towns in Maine, Solon's early economy was based on agriculture, particularly farming and lumbering. The Carrabassett River, which flows through the town, provided water power that supported various industries, such as mills and factories.

Somerset county. Solon is a flourishing farming town, on the east side of Kennebec river, opposite to Embden. It lies 44 miles N. by W. from Augusta and 18 N. from Norridgewock. Population, 1830, 768; 1837, 1,129. Wheat crop, 1837, 6,567 bushels. The town is well watered by a pond and several streams: it has a pleasant village and some manufactures.
