Roxbury: Found in Oxford County, Roxbury is a quiet, rural town nestled among mountains and lakes. It’s a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, fishing, and snowmobiling.Originally known as Township No. 7, it was first settled about 1809. Roxbury is situated in western Maine, near the border with New Hampshire. It is part of the Bethel Census Area and is about 70 miles northwest of the state capital, Augusta. The town is characterized by its rural charm, rolling hills, and lush forests. The region is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Oxford county. The surface of this town is elevated and well timbered, with some good soil. Roxbury is watered by a branch of Androscoggin river. It lies 30 miles N. from Paris, and is bounded S. by Rumford. Incorporated, 1835.—Population, 1837, 182.
