Rome: Situated in Kennebec County, Rome is a small rural town surrounded by lakes and forests. It’s a great place for outdoor activities such as fishing, kayaking, and hiking.
Originally a part of West Pond Plantation, Rome was first settled about 1780 by Richard Furbush from Lebanon. The town was incorporated on March 7, 1804, and named after Rome in Italy.

Rome, Maine
Franklin county. This is a beautiful farming town, watered by several large ponds. It lies 19 miles N.N.W. from Augusta and 13 E.S.E. from Farmington. It contains a pleasant and flourishing village. Incorporated in 1804. Population, 1837, 1,074. Wheat crop, same year, 4,117 bushels.
