Prospect: Found in Waldo County, Prospect is a small rural town best known for its proximity to Fort Knox State Historic Site and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, offering stunning views of the river.

Originally part of Frankfort, it was settled in 1759 when Fort Pownall was completed at Fort Point on Cape Jellison. Prospect was set off and incorporated in 1794. Land was then set off from Prospect in 1845 to form part of Searsport. Stockton (later Stockton Springs) was set off and incorporated in 1857.

1839 - Prospect
Prospect, Maine
Waldo county. This is a beautiful town of good soil on the west side of Penobscot river. It is bounded on the S. by Belfast bay; 52 miles E. by N. from Augusta, 12 N.N.E. from Belfast, and 18 S. from Bangor. Prospect is very flourishing in its commercial and agricultural pursuits. Population, 1830, 2,381; 1837, 3,198. Incorporated, 1794. Wheat crop, 1837, 4,416 bushels.

Prospect, a post-township (town and village) of Waldo, co., Me., about 20 miles S. of Bangor. The town is bounded on the E. by the Penobscot River. Pop. in 1900, 648.
