Mayfield is an extinct town and extinct plantation, now an unorganized territory (township) in the Northeast Somerset townships in Somerset County. The town of Mayfield was organized from Township 2, Second Range of Bingham's Kennebec Purchase, West of Kennebec River (T2 R2 BKP WKR) in 1836. In 1887 Mayfield surrendered its status as a town to become an unorganized territory (township) until 1892. In 1892, and 1895 it was reorganized into a plantation. The plantation status was surrendered in 1937, and since then it has remained an unorganized territory.familysearch.org

Somerset county. On the E. side of Kennebec river and about 10 miles from it. It is 58 miles N. from Augusta and about 29 N. by E. from Norridgewock. Incorporated, 1836. Population, 1837, 224.
