Madrid is a former town, now an unorganized territory (township) in the West Central townships in Franklin County, Maine Genealogy. Madrid was settled about 1807, and incorporated as a town in 1836. Maine's first gold strike was here in 1854. Madrid disincorporated in the year 2000.

1839 - Madrid
Madrid, Maine
Franklin county. This township was incorporated in 1836. It is watered by some of the head branches of Sandy river and contains a part of Saddleback mountain. The soil is excellent and yielded, in 1837, 3,387 bushels of wheat. Population same year, 351. It lies 25 miles N.W. from Farmington, and about 105 N.W. from Augusta.
